Our Editorial Process

What makes mindbodygreen different:

Your journey to well-being is personal—but the content available online is not. The complicated studies, medical jargon, and biased assumptions make it hard to feel empowered when taking charge of your health.

At mindbodygreen, our integrative and holistic approach to well-being weaves together all aspects of health—mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and environmental. This 360-degree approach to wellness is the backbone of mbg’s content and an integral part of every story our editorial team writes.

Our writers & team:

Our carefully selected writers are trained on our high standards for sourcing and reporting when they join mbg. As an editorial team, we’re obsessed with finding (and sharing) the things people want to know—and doing it in a way that enables them to take action and inform their health choices as best as possible.

In our mission to make the most relevant, useful, and up-to-date content for our readers, we also uncover the best health and lifestyle products to support your well-being journey. Our reviews process for products can be found on our mbg market commerce standards page.

Our style & point of view:

It’s important to us that our content is not only accurate, but also accessible.

In order to give readers access to the very best advice in functional medicine and nutrition, we take the time to read the long, sometimes dense studies so they can be broken down into actionable steps.

While we always want to know where the science and research stands, we’re still curious and open-minded. We’ll always consider the latest scientific breakthroughs, while also honoring long-standing remedies and ingredients rooted in ancient history and tradition.

Health

At mindbodygreen, we share a 360-degree approach to health that weaves various aspects of well-being together—because we believe that they are all interconnected. We focus specifically on eight health pillars: nutrition, gut health, mental health, movement, sleep, breath, immunity, and women’s health.

Beauty

We have never believed that beauty is superficial, and we do not treat it as such in our content. Beauty, when boiled down to its core values, has a purpose: And that purpose is to better your physical, emotional, environmental, cultural, and mental well-being—in ways simple and complex, big and small. But we also have plenty of fun around here, too. Part of the joy of beauty is that it doesn’t always need to be taken so seriously—and we find value in frivolity when the occasion calls for it

Love and relationships

Our approach to relationships is grounded in self-awareness, introspection, empathy, and a balance of self-acceptance and accountability. We tend toward thoughtful, psychology-backed explorations of the dynamics, challenges, and areas for growth in partnerships. We lean toward inner work and tough conversations as opposed to quick fixes and playbook tips. We encourage emotional literacy, conversation, and getting in our feelings.

Spirituality

We believe that meaning and purpose are essential to well-being, with spirituality being a conduit. We see every day as an opportunity for self-study, and want to help people tap into their own inner knowing and answer life’s big questions for themselves.

Sustainability

We believe human-induced climate change is real and happening. We try to stay positive, even in the face of grim news, and report on what people can do to be part of the solution.

How we create the best content for our community:

Our expert contributors and editors report on groundbreaking scientific discoveries, interview leading experts on evergreen topics, and share personal stories of transformation across all pillars of health. Regardless of the topic covered, we’re committed to content that’s well-researched, well-sourced, and well-written.

When an expert isn’t writing the content, our editorial team and freelance writers prioritize sources from peer-reviewed journals and certified experts—and always provide links to that material in the content. Most medical content also goes through a reviews process, outlined below.

Our review process:

Fact checks are completed on all news content. Led by our copy editor, we’ve created a comprehensive 10-step fact-checking process that covers everything from proper names to information provided by experts during interviews.

We also require Medical Reviews on all applicable content by relevant medical experts in the field. They double-check content to ensure that it’s accurate and appropriately sourced.

Our site also features expert and peer reviews: Expert reviews come from topic specialists with applicable knowledge about a topic (think: Ph.D., R.D., LCSW,etc.), while a peer review refers to instances where an expert is reviewing another expert’s work. Think of it like an extra round of vetting—and it’s not the only time we lean on experts.

Insider access to the best experts:

Working with experts enables mindbodygreen to create more in-depth content, whether it’s by having them write content for the site or assisting with our reviews process.

We refer to our experts as the mbg collective—which expands beyond medical experts to include certified yoga teachers, therapists, nutritionists, and spiritual leaders. This integration of multiple fields ensures we’re always pushing for the most holistic approach to well-being.

Submission guidelines:

If you’re looking to contribute a story to mindbodygreen, please submit your pitch to [email protected]. We go through this inbox about once a week, and we appreciate your patience. We’re always looking for insightful experts to join our collective.

Once the correction is addressed and the article has been updated, our editorial team will publish a note of the correction in the article to ensure readers are aware a correction was made.
