We’ll tell you exactly what you need to know—and how it might help you become a healthier and happier human.
While there's no tried-and-true formula for figuring out whether or not someone has a tendency toward infidelity, new research published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior1 indicates that face shape could play a role. Yep, you read that right: Researchers found that when men have a high face width-to-height-ratio (FWHR), they may not only have a higher sex drive but be more likely to cheat.
Researchers used two different experiments in the study to come to this conclusion. For the first, they had 145 heterosexual students (60 males and 76 females) complete a questionnaire on their sex drive. They also measured the dimensions of their faces from photographs.
For the second experiment, researchers used a slightly bigger sample size, with 314 students, 43 percent of whom were men. They measured their FWHR, asked them questions and their sex lives, and had them fill out complete questionnaires that measured their attitudes and likelihood toward infidelity. They found that men with high FWHR were more likely to have attitudes that tended toward cheating. Yikes.
If you're not one to judge your partner on face shape alone, there's more research surrounding this topic that could lead you to your own conclusions. A 2010 study out of Binghamton University discovered that if you have the gene DRD4—or the "thrill-seeking gene"—you're more likely to exhibit risky behaviors including excessive drinking, gambling, and yes, cheating.
